My Favorite Sweet + Spicy Rubbed Steak Fajitas with Avocado Spread

It's the perfect blend of spice + sweet - great to have on a grilled steak with charred peppers + creamy avocado spread.

Let the steak rest, slice it + top with cilantro, hot sauce + plenty more avocado spread.

Making the Sweet + Spicy rub is easy - mix all the spices + brown sugar together! Keep any leftovers to use for your next taco night. It goes great on fish + chicken too.

My Favorite Sweet + Spicy Rubbed Steak Fajitas with Avocado Spread

1 tablespoon coconut oil

1 flat iron steak (about 2 lbs), room temperature + patted with a paper towel

2 heaping tablespoons Sweet + Spicy Blend

3 bell peppers, assorted colors, sliced thinly

warmed tortillas or lettuce

small bunch fresh cilantro

Preheat your grill or grill pan to high heat. If using a grill pan, add the coconut oil + let it coat the pan while preheated.

Sprinkle both sides of the steak with the sweet + spicy blend. Let sit until the grill is hot.

When the grill or grill pan is smoking hot, add the steak. Let cook on the first side for 6 minutes. Flip over + cook for another 6-8 minutes or until the steak is cooked to your likely. *It will continue to cook after you remove it from the grill to rest.

After at least 5 minutes, slice the steak thinly + assemble the fajitas that way you like them. I love making them into lettuce wraps or a salad. Top with the avocado spread + fresh cilantro.

Enjoy!

Sweet + Spicy Fajita Blend

1 tablespoon chili powder

1 tablespoon smoked paprika

1 tablespoon brown sugar

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 teaspoon cumin

1 teaspoon onion powder

1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (or more if you like it hotter)

1 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon ground black pepper

To make the sweet + spicy blend, combine all the spices in a small jar. Set aside until needed. Store any remaining in a jar with a lid on the counter.

Avocado Spread

Blend together using a hand immersion blender or stand blender, 1 avocado, 5 cilantro stems + leaves, 2 scallions, 2 tablespoon olive oil, 1 large pinch salt + black pepper, juice of 1 lime + 1 teaspoon sweet + spicy blend.
